If you need some kind of health support, São Miguel has a pharmacy (“farmácia”) in almost every village. You can recognise these by the green, glowing cross. Other than in many other countries, you usually consult your pharmacist first in any case of health inquiry here. If you already know what you need it will be helpful to know the main active ingredient, which will often be the same as or similar to the English name, other than many of the names of the actual medication.
